A focus on the whole diver
Martin is an SSI Instructor Trainer who has spent over a decade teaching and mentoring divers in the warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand. His work centres on building confident, capable divers and professionals through patient, structured coaching.
From first-time divers to Instructor candidates, the approach is the same: develop genuine understanding, independent judgement and repeatable skill — not just the ability to pass a check on certification day.
Blue Minded Martin is the digital side of that practice — a place for preparation, theory and continued learning that complements in-water training rather than replacing it.
* Awarded by SSI to Martin Lindkvist for the second-highest number of professional-level certifications issued in Thailand in 2025.
Professional focus
Experience in professional scuba education
Martin’s work spans the full professional pathway — from developing new Divemasters to certifying Instructors who go on to teach independently.
Professional experience
More than a decade working as an SSI Instructor on Koh Tao, guiding students from their first breaths underwater through to professional-level diving leadership in real dive-boat conditions.
Instructor training
Preparing and certifying new SSI Instructors — coaching candidates through teaching theory, watermanship and standards so they enter the industry ready to teach independently.
Divemaster development
Developing the first rung of dive professionals — leadership, dive management and the supervisory judgement that turns a strong diver into a capable Divemaster.
Mentorship
Ongoing coaching that continues past certification, supporting professionals as they gain experience, refine their teaching and grow within the SSI system.
Teaching philosophy
The thinking behind Blue Minded Martin
The philosophy that shapes every course: develop divers who understand what they do, think for themselves underwater, and keep growing long after they’re certified.
Understanding over memorization
Divers learn the “why” behind every skill and standard, so knowledge holds up in real conditions instead of fading after the exam.
Independent thinking
Students are coached to assess situations, weigh risk and make sound decisions on the dive boat — not just to follow steps by rote.
Confidence through competence
Real confidence is built from genuine, repeatable skill. Martin prioritises mastering fundamentals before advancing, so progress is earned and durable.
Professionalism
Punctuality, clear communication, safe operations and respect for students and the ocean — the standard Martin sets for himself and those he trains.
Leadership
Dive professionals lead by example. Training develops the judgement, presence and calm authority that teams and students rely on underwater.
Teaching quality
Structured, patient and adaptive coaching — meeting each diver at their level and progressing them through a clear, well-paced plan.
Continuing development
Certification is a starting point, not an endpoint. Martin encourages ongoing learning, specialty growth and mentorship well beyond the card.
